HAND THERAPY

Individual treatment

Each patient is considered as an individual and treatment is specific to them. It is of utmost importance to ensure that an individual is able to function independently in their everyday life.

Rehabilitation offered:

Rehabilitation is offered for the following hand and upper limb conditions:

Fracture management & rehabilitation
Wrist injuries
Arthritis
Tendon repairs & transfers
Inflammatory conditions including deQuervains Tenosynovitis (DQTS), Tennis elbow etc.
The stiff hand: this may be experienced after a distal radius fracture, trauma to the hand, surgery to the hand.
Nerve injuries: including brachial plexus injuries, obstetric brachial plexus injuries or nerve specific injuries. Additionally, nerve compressions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

About Roxanne

Roxanne Wentzel

BSc. Occupational Therapy (UCT)

Roxanne spent her first few years of life in the City of Gold, thereafter her family moved to Botswana. At age nine she requested to attend boarding school and she was shipped off to D.S.G in Grahamstown. After this long haul she moved to Cape Town and completed a BSc. Honours degree in Occupational Therapy at UCT. Roxanne then moved back to Joburg and began her community service year at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH). Here she discovered her love for hand therapy and requested to move to the famous CHBAH specialised Hand Unit. She works closely with the hand surgeons, ensuring the most evidenced based comprehensive treatment for all her patients. She is passionate about assisting people with injured hands to achieve independence in their everyday lives by means of hand therapy. Recently, Roxanne travelled to an International Hands Congress in India where she presented prospective research to be carried out at CHBAH. Additionally, to ensure the best treatment is given to her patients, Roxanne is completing a post-graduate diploma in hand therapy as well as attending courses. In her spare time, Roxanne enjoys the outdoors, running and cooking.
