Gwen Seviour
BSc (Rhodes), Honours Biokinetics (UPE)
Gwen has been in private practice for 14 years. Coming from the East Rand, she chose to escape to the Eastern Cape to complete her undergraduate degree in Human Movement Science at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. Not ready to return to “Big City Life” she completed her Biokinetics Honours degree at the University of Port Elizabeth.
On her return to Jo’burg, she joined an amazing practice where, through hard work, and her love of biokinetics, she became a part-owner. She later had the privilege of becoming the sole proprietor of the (re-named) Gwen Seviour Biokinetics. She has worked out of the same premises for the past 14 years and has been involved in the implementation and development of other Biokinetics Centres in the Joburg area.
Exercise rehabilitation is Gwen’s passion, along with her interaction with people: “I love that people trust and entrust me to help them on their road to recovery through education. I am fortunate that I have state-of-the art equipment to help me in my treatment protocols, but I am excited by functional exercise rehabilitation and programme prescription.”
Gwen is committed to the evolving world of Wellness – particularly Corporate, and Community Wellness programmes – where she believes education on healthy life style choices – and implementation through appropriately managed exercise prescription – can significantly alter the health profile of the nation!
Being approached by Bell, Rogers & Harris to be part of their exciting new venture was an opportunity too good to turn down: She decided to move the entire Gwen Seviour Biokinetics practice to ‘Off- Nicol’!
Along with her day-job, she has the pleasure of being the mother of two toddlers, which keeps her on her toes (which means she has great stabilisers and calves!). She has a really cool and supportive husband as well.

OUR TEAM
BIOKINETICS
Andrew John Elliott
BHSC Honours Biokinetics (Wits), BSc Honours Forensic Anatomy (Wits)
For Andrew John Elliott, sport, nutrition and health has always been a great interest; this is what compelled him into the medical industry in the first place. He began his academic journey at Wits where he completed his BHSC (honours) in Biokinetics. However, before he completed Biokinetics he completed an honours degree in forensic anatomy which he would say attributed to a logical ‘way of thinking’ which has been most useful in his treatments and intervention tactics.
As an undergrad Andrew was fortunate to began working with premier football teams in South Africa, where he would perform advanced performance and physiological testing for almost every team in the country. He was also involved, as a physiologist, in acclimatizing various international teams for the 2010 world cup. He himself has been a national rower and received his colours as such. He has also suffered greatly at the hands of disease during his peak and understands the arduousness of the road to recovery. Some of his favourite things to fix are knees and backs. He really enjoys teaching physiology and tends to have very well informed patients.
He is the resident “eternal student” and has surpassed even Van Wilder this year upon entering into his eighth year of study. His academics extend into the world of cardiovascular medicine where he is currently learning specialised diagnostic procedures at the University of Liverpool in conjunction with the University of Western Austrailia. He is a keen researcher and is currently involved both in publishing several academic papers, and conducting various research projects in JHB general hospital.
Outside of work, he is a keen traveller and speaks Spanish rather well. In his own mind his snowboarding skills are unparalleled, as are his loves for cheese and chocolate respectively.

Julia Williams
BSc (Stellenbosch)
Growing up not far from the “sleepy hollow” called Pietermaritzburg, Julia decided to broaden her horizons and spread her wings and venture down to the Western Cape after she matriculated. With a love of sports and a passion for working with people she decided to study Human Movement Science at the University of Stellenbosch. She qualified as a biokineticist in 2003 from the Sports Science Institute of South Africa in Cape Town and started her adventure into the working world by moving to the bright lights of Johannesburg.
After three years of working as a biokineticist, Julia decided it was time to move abroad and relocated to London where she spent two years working as a cardiac technician in the NHS and travelling Europe and the USA. Julia returned to South Africa at the end of 2008 and joined Gwen Seviour Biokinetics in Morningside where she has been ever since.
While she enjoys treating all orthopaedic and sports injuries, she has a special interest in rehabilitation of the shoulder and knee joints as well as running injuries. Coming from a background of running herself and married to a Comrades runner, she has realised there are plenty of people out there running with pain and discomfort on a daily basis which can easily be treated.
Outside of her day-job, she is the proud mother of twins, Jessica and Luke. Having twins has made her realise that life is all about time management if you are to get anything done!! Luckily she has a really supportive and hands-on husband to help her!

Monique van Meyeren
B. Sport Science Honours Biokinetics
Monique, born in Johannesburg and brought up in Cape Town, has spent most of her life in or alongside a swimming pool. She started swimming at a young age, and has competed at a high level of aquatic sport, from provincial to national, and even international events. Her passion has always been for sports and the human body, which made Human Movement Science (Sports Science) a natural choice. She completed her undergraduate degree and postgraduate studies in Biokinetics at the University of Stellenbosch, after which she held an internship at the University of the Western Cape, where she later served as a lecturer in Aquatics while also practising privately in Durbanville. At the same time, she also served as a coach and team biokineticist for a well-known swim club in the Western Cape. With her love for water, she has taken a keen interest in hydrotherapy, and she sees her recent move to Johannesburg as an opportunity to take this further. Even though hydrotherapy is her speciality, she enjoys all aspects of rehabilitation.
Outside of work, Monique leads a fairly active lifestyle and loves doing outdoorsy activities with friends, family and her pet dogs.

Sian Collins
B Human Movement Science Honours Biokinetics (Pretoria)
Sian was born and raised in Johannesburg. She obtained a degree in Human Movement Science and Honors in Biokinetics from the University of Pretoria. Sian was then introduced to Pilates where she immediately became a true believer and attained her certification from Body Arts and Science International. After working at Gwen Seviour Biokinetics as a Biokineticist for two years, Sian decided to work abroad in Dubai were she taught Pilates at The Hundred Pilates Studio. Sian has just recently returned home after two years.
Sian has always had a passion for movement and the human body. Along with Pilates, Sian enjoys dancing, running and travelling.
